About Luma Technologies
Founded in March 2006, Luma Technologies designs, manufactures STCd replacement LED annunciator panels for various fixed wing and rotorcraft. We are a small family-owned company located near Seattle, WA.
We have hundreds of our panels that have been flying since our first STC in 2009 from King Air, Cessna Caravan, DeHavilland Dash 8 and various rotorcraft Bell 206, 412, Sikorsky S70, Bell 205, CH47D. Our panels are designed to be drop in plug and play replacements of the OEM incandescent panels still flying that are becoming obsolete and too costly if not impossible to repair if companies even support them anymore.
Luma was built on the vision of becoming a trusted source in advanced lighting and switching solutions for the aviation industry. With a focus on quality, reliability, and innovation, we specialize in the design and manufacturing of illuminated display panels, custom switching systems, and cockpit control interfaces tailored for both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. From commercial aircraft to military applications, our products are engineered to meet the demanding standards of modern aviation—enhancing safety, reliability, and aesthetics in any operating environment. At Luma, we’re proud to support aircraft owners, operators, maintenance providers and manufacturers with solutions that deliver long-term performance and dependability.
Vision
The aerospace industry has seen an endless wave of mergers, name changes, relocations, delivery delays, and inevitable price hikes. At Luma, we offer a more stable, dependable alternative, a “soft landing” for customers who are tired of the runaround and just want someone they can count on.
From day one, we started with a clean slate. Designing our systems and building our facilities specifically around the needs of our customers. That meant adopting ISO9001/AS9100 quality standards and FAA-certifiable procedures, as well as embracing lean manufacturing concepts that allow us to stay agile and responsive to market trends.
We're proud to be based just outside Seattle, where we draw from a deep pool of engineering and technical talent. From plastics fabrication and circuit design to optical engineering, our team shares a common passion for aviation and a drive to make exciting, meaningful contributions to the industry.
Mission
Since its founding, Luma’s business plan has called for an advanced quality system aligned with ISO and AS9100 standards. We’ve met that challenge - our quality system is certified to both standards, with continuous improvements being made to processes and products.
But quality doesn’t stop at procedures, it must be embedded in product design. In an industry where average performance and unpredictable reliability were once the norm, only the highest standards will do. Our goal is simple: stunning reliability, cost-managed solutions, and zero excuses.
Our small team of engineers, technicians, and process specialists are constantly pushing boundaries. With advances in materials, circuitry, and miniaturization, paired with cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. We deliver innovative, high-performance solutions for both new builds and retrofit applications.
We understand how devastating missed AOG deadlines can be for operators. That’s why we’ve structured our production to anticipate and meet customer quick turn needs using lean manufacturing, a real-time ERP system, and carefully managed inventories that can usually ship within a week or less as opposed to months.
Quality Policy
Luma Technologies is fully committed to quality and continuous improvement across all areas of the organization. Through teamwork and active employee involvement in our Continuous Quality Improvement process, we ensure that our goals of quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved. Luma Technologies target for quality is to maintain and improve the quality of products and service in order to consistently meet customer requirements and internal needs. We want to be our customers’ preferred supplier for the products and services we produce and adhering to these principles will ensure this goal is met.
Environmental Responsibility
Luma Technologies is committed to its overall environmental responsibility and has many ways of achieving this while also ensuring its processes are economically sound. Through sustainable lean manufacturing, we minimize negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and resources and yielding superior products.
Examples of this are proactively reformulating proprietary plastics recipes to yield minimal excess waste to complete a job; batching multiple job orders where feasible to achieve economies of scale while also minimizing shop supplies ie. gloves, syringes, cups etc. used during the manufacturing process.
Luma manages its own inventory including pcb electrical components. Where some third-party companies throw away excess components after pcb assembly is complete; Luma retains excess inventory and stores under proper environmental controlled conditions allowing for most inventory to be reused for future jobs. This not only saves money but also prevents a considerable amount of good material from being put in the trash unnecessarily.
Luma has a nearly unheard of 5-year warranty on most of its products sold in the aviation industry. The premise here is that Luma has confidence in its offerings to outlast the remaining life of an aircraft in operations unlike other consumable or shorter life products i.e. incandescent lamps vs LEDs. Luma’s products are not meant to be thrown away after a certain period of time and in most cases can be repaired and returned to service should a failure occur.
In the nearly twenty years Luma has been in business, management has been committed to continuously improving the companies lean manufacturing processes which has not only led to improved product quality but also led to reduced scrap rates, product failures and improved employee safety.
